EDITORIAL - heraldnews@archant.co.uk
AN INQUEST into the death of a Harlow woman who died after undergoing a surgical procedure in hospital starts today (Thursday).

Vera Bishop, 70, was admitted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow in January 2003 for a routine gastroscopy, which involves a camera being passed into the stomach.

At some point a problem developed and she was transferred to the hospital's intensive care unit and died two weeks later.

Attwater & Liell solicitor David Kerry is acting on behalf of Mrs Bishop's husband Sidney.

Mr Kerry said: "Mr Bishop has waited a long time to find out what happened to his wife.

"He is naturally anxious to discover how the tragedy happened and he is hoping that this inquest will provide him with the answer so that at last he can achieve some kind of closure."

The inquest will be before a jury at the County Hall, Chelmsford, and is expected to take two days.
